I don’t tend to go into too much detail on my outfits on Instagram. I do really enjoy sharing them on there but I thought I’d start showing you a bit more into the looks that I tend to wear on the days that I’m not stuck in in workwear!
Let’s get into it and start with the trench coat. Let me tell you the story – I went to TK Maxx to find an Autumn candle a few weeks ago and ended up in the coat section. TK Maxx is great because you can find some amazing bargains (including this trench coat), and brands like Zara and Mango are always stocked in there. There are always little gems that you can find, and this trench coat is no different!
I’d been looking for a trench for the longest time, but I always felt so frumpy in them. I started pulling out faux fur coats from the rail to try and this coat caught my eye. Lined with check and with more beautiful checked detail in the split in the back, the fit was spot on to wear over sweatshirts and knitwear, and falls at precisely the right length to ensure I don’t look too drowned but not too awkwardly cut off either – winner, winner.
I’ll be wearing this coat a LOT in the next few months. Although it’s rather thin, the beauty of this is that you can totally go full SmythSisters and layer to your heart’s content. I will absolutely be going for thermals, with a thinner bit of knitwear and denim over the top with my trusty Farleigh’s and of course, this amazing wool hat that I’ve been wearing non stop recently.
For this particular look, I went for something super simple. It was dress down day at work, so it needed to be something practical, but nothing too over the top to warrant questions about what the hell I was wearing for a day of sitting at my desk! I settled for my favourite jeans, my new Williamsburg sweatshirt from H&M, neutral Vejas and a neutral beanie. This is definitely one of those looks that you reach for over and over, and you can definitely bet that I wore it again, a few days later!
And do you know what the best part is? This trench coat only cost £14.99. Bargain.
I may not be able to find any trenches at that ridiculous price, but I can certainly try and share my favourites saved from various websites!
