Hello!
So this is EXTREMELY late, but better late than never, right?
At the very end of May, Adam and I FINALLY hopped on a plane and travelled over to Koh Samui, Thailand for a week of cocktails and complete chill. It had literally been nearly a year of waiting, so as you can imagine we were itching with excitement!
The flights went fine, a few delays but nothing majorly horrendous (despite Adam’s suitcase arriving 15 minutes later from a DIFFERENT plane – wtf?!), and we were transported by our lovely taxi to our hotel where we were greeted with an ice, ice cold coconut water (I think!) which was SO refreshing; neither of us were expecting the humidity, oh my God.
Hotels are pretty cheap in Thailand, and we got an incredible deal with Centara Villas in Koh Samui – we paid around £180 each for 8 days (SO. CHEAP.) and they were rated at 4* as well! It was perfect for us because we’re pretty easy going people, and the villas were in a more secluded part of the island (the Maret area), which was super quiet and nice.
Adam also surprised me and upgraded our room as a birthday present (he’s such a good egg), and this is what our room looked like!
Our previous room would have been a fair way away from the pools, but this was literally two staircases from the bar/pool area, and we had a jacuzzi bath with a huge overhead shower and EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA large bed, literally; Adam definitely slept horizonally a lot of the time!!
The villas were dotted around the resort and trust me when I say there is A LOT of stairs, but we quite enjoyed it, it was a nice little work out, despite the humidity!
The bathrooms were very cool – two mirrored areas, with a conservatory style window above to maintain the heat, as well as bamboo windows next two each mirror; they were essentially outside… but not!
There were three different pools, and we literally spent the majority of our time around the biggest one, taking advantage of their 2 for 1 cocktail deal from 1pm-4pm (; We both really loved the watermelon and mango cocktails (E V E R Y D A Y).
We got breakfast every morning from the kitchen just left of the above photo; they would have an ARRAY of fruits, and juices, cereals, croissants, fry ups and PANCAKES. Those pancakes were damn good, as well as the watermelon; I freaking love watermelon guys.
The staff were so so helpful. I know a lot of people who have said that Thai people are so lovely and that couldn’t be more true; they honestly couldn’t enough for you and they would always make sure that we were OK at any point in the day. If you needed anything, the staff would be at hand to assist you. We didn’t run into any trouble with them at any point in the week, so Adam and I were really impressed. (:
Towards the end of the week, we discovered this little bar a short walk down the beach from the resort called The Cool Bar – it’s really highly rated on TripAdvisor, so we decided to go down and have a cocktail or two (seriously their Kiwi cocktails were incredible, made with real kiwis too obvs.); and I highly recommend you try the Blue Drink – so lethal.
The owners were so lovely, and the food was made right there for you, and that was equally as amazing.
There’s no doubt that we’ll be returning to Koh Samui – we’re not sure when, but Centara will 100% be on our list of hotels again. I think we’re going to try and stay closer to Chaweng next time, but that’s only because it would save us the 90BAHT taxi, each way!
